CLEVELAND PHILANTHROPY

So much Cleveland History has been lost
Stories of People, Events, and Places
Cleveland Philanthropy is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) established to circulate stories from the past to help us better understand the present and envision the future.
Our services include:
-
Working collaboratively with individuals who would like one-on-one mentoring to tell their story or stories of family members
-
Intergenerational transcription services
-
General transcription/research services
-
Oral histories

Cleveland Philanthropy’s unique give-back business model balances paid and pro-bono project work, and provides graduate students and recent graduate students with opportunities for paid research, transcription, and, for Cleveland Philanthropy Fellows, supervisory skills.
As an example, much of the history of the Wade family and their role in the creation of Cleveland's cultural, educational, and health infrastructure has been lost.

The significant parklands that originally bore the family name, Wade Park, gifts from two generations of the family to Cleveland have been overshadowed by the name of a trolley stop University Circle, so that the green legacy of the family remains largely unacknowledged.

Over the past six years, Cleveland Philanthropy has worked with a series of historians, paid graduate students, volunteers, and authors to uncover and publish inspirational stories of others, like the Wades, who've made history.

From the City of  Cleveland Resolution adopted after the death of Jeptha H. Wade, August 1890
"...and because he lived the world is wiser and better, and the spirit of humanity broader."
